Registering My Child for CIC

There are several ways your child can participate in CIC - through your child's school, in an after school program, club or group, or as an independent study student (ISS).  Please see the ISS qualifications below.

New! Because of the changes CIC implemented in 2016-17 to accommodate the expansion of its program to Regional Events followed by the Annual State Final Event, some processes have changed.

Please read the information below that pertains to the way your child(ren) participates in the CIC Program to detemine how these processes affect you, the parent. Should you require additional information or clarification, please email us at info@ctinventionconvention.org with your full name, your child's name, their teacher's name, their school and of course, your question or problem.

My Child Participates in CIC Through a School or After School/Club/Group Program:

Enrollment:

New! Your child will be enrolled in the CIC program by their teacher or program manager by January 15, 2017. You will not be filling out the usual registration form, but may have access to update any information that might have changed between enrollment and the first event (address, parent contact info, etc.) While there is no fee to participate at the school/program level, there are two modest registration fees to participate in the Regional Event ($20) and Annual State Finals Event ($30).

Regional Event Registration:

New!  If your child is selected to move on from the local school invention convention to the Regional Event, and the school has identified you, the parents, as the party responsible for paying the registration fee ($20), you will receive an email with a link for payment by credit card. Once paid, you will receive a confirmation email with another link to the Photo Permission Form.  Along with their paid registration, this form is your child's entrance ticket to the Regional Event and must be filled out and presented upon check-in on the day of the Regional Event. The student will receive a participation certificate, event t-shirt, special coupons, and an event program. The schedule for Regional Events is here and listed on the right sidebar.

Annual State Finals Event Registration:

New! From the Regional Event, if your child is selected to move on to the Annual State Final Event, CIC will complete the registration.  If you have been identified by your child's school as the party responsible for paying the registration fee ($30), you will receive an email with a link for payment by credit card.  Once paid, you will receive a confirmation email.  No Photo Permission Form will be needed for the Annual State Finals Event, as CIC will already have collected them at the prior Regional Event.

For legal reasons, students are NOT allowed to register themselves and all registrations must be done by an adult.
New! For 2016-17 CIC year, registration for both the Regional Event and Annual State Finals Events will be handled by your child's teachers and CIC.

To assure fairness to everyone, students can NOT attend a different Regional Event, no matter what the reason or problem. Sorry!

My Child is Homeschooled or Cannot Participate in CIC Through a School/After School Program:

Most K-8 students who would like to participate in a CIC program can do so through their school or after school/club/group, but if none of those options is available, a K-8 student may participate in the CIC as in Independent Study Student (ISS).

ISS Qualifications for CIC Participation
ISS is a category of CIC participant that falls into one of these situations below:

  • Students who are Homeschooled
  • Student's school has not joined the CIC program
  • Student's school has joined the CIC program, but participation in the school's CIC program is not offered to the student. If the school gives the student the opportunity to participate, but they decide not to, then they cannot be an ISS.  If, for any reason, the school does NOT select the student to move on to the Regional Event, then the student can NOT register as in ISS.

Only K-8 students who fall into one of the situations above can participate in the CIC as an ISS. With your child present, please read "Rules for Invention Convention" for additional information and program guidelines.

New! Please note that CIC ISS participants are required to attend their "local invention convention" event prior to being selected to attend a Regional Event. There are no "Walk-Ins" allowed for either the Regional or Annual State Finals Events.

New! The Local Invention Covention Date for ISS is Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Goodwin College in East Hartford.
